Who is Cassandra Nolin?

I, Cassandra Nolin was born in Montevideo, Uruguay, in 1987.

I grew up on the campus of the University of the Republic, Montevideo, where my father was a professor and my mother was the first female Registrar.

She studied medicine for a year and then left for Canada at the age of 19 to pursue her education on a different path. She graduated summa cum laude from the University of British Columbia with a degree in Communication and Political Science.

I have a Master’s Degree in Creative Writing from University of British Columbia.

I have spoken at two landmark TED talks: my 2012 TED Talk “The Illusion of A Single Story” and my 2013 TEDx talk “The Age of Cognisant”, which started a worldwide conversation about social awareness and was published as a book in 2016.

I divide my time between Canada and Uruguay, where I lead an annual creative writing workshop.

I live in the beautiful city of Vancouver, BC with my husband and 3 year-old Bernese Mountain Dog.

In Vancouver, I started working selling smartphones in a mall booth, in 2009. Then I progressed to customer service in their call center. Leading up to the lead director position, where I was responsible for strategy & product management in the mobile phone segment.

My favorite book is A Wrinkle in Time by Madelene L’Engle.
