In my opinion, the $34 plan is the best deal here.
As of this writing on Jan 5, 2024, this $34 plan gives you 50 GB at 5G speed. Expiry Jan 8, 2024.
(5G here means 25GB at up to 250mbps, then you get unlimited data, throttled at 512kbps)
Includes pretty much everything else you could need; Unlimited Canada-wide minutes and messaging plus unlimited international text and picture messaging, voicemail.
What do 4G, 5G, 3G speeds, actually mean?
For 99% of people, 5G gives very little benefit. Public Mobile says you need it, but in all honesty, you probably don’t.
4G plans give you up to 100 megabits/second. That is PLENTY, even for watching 4K resolution YouTube (which you wouldn’t do on your phone, anyhow!)
5G PLANS give you UP TO 250 megabits/second. Your phone does NOT need to have 5G capability, as 4G can easily reach 250mbps.
In Public Mobile’s point of view, 3G/4G/5G are purely marketing terms for speed, nothing to do with technological specifications. (What matters, is the actual distance from you to the cell tower)
